Upcoming WWII-Era Horror Film Loosely Based On Loss of Australian Corvette HMAS Armidale
Shark films are a staple of the horror genre and just one Australian filmmaker is looking to meld this fashion of film with the war style. Kiah Roache-Turner is the head guiding Beast of War, a Environment War II-era movie which is loosely influenced by the loss of the HMAS Armidale (J240) in December 1942.
As reported by Deadline, the synopsis for Beast of War reads, “1942. A warship carries hundreds of Australian troopers across the Timor Sea to the frontline of WW2. All of a sudden, Japanese fighter jets scream out of the sky, and inside minutes the ocean turns into a hell of steel, fire, oil, and blood.
“With the vessel destroyed, a handful of soldiers construct a makeshift raft from floating debris as they cling to their life. Tensions operate large in between the scorching-headed and terrified youthful adult males, as they band together in an exertion to endure. But their biggest fight is nevertheless to appear. In the dim under, a great white shark hunts in the wreckage and is drawn to the smell of refreshing blood in the water.”
Although wanting to produce something very similar to USS Indianapolis: Gentleman of Bravery (2016), about the loss of the American weighty cruiser to a Japanese submarine in July 1945, Roache-Turner didn’t have the price range.
“I considered it experienced to be Australian, so I did about two seconds of Google exploring and observed the story of the HMAS Armidale that sank off the coast of Western Australia, midway between Darwin and Timor,” he informed The Hollywood Reporter. “It was the identical story – ship goes in the h2o, no distress sign despatched, plenty of inadequate Aussie guys undertaking incredibly heroic matters, some were killed by sharks and lots of were under no circumstances witnessed all over again.

The team was to also provide a relief contingent of Australian soldiers and customers of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army.
